Ball launches new enewsletter, “Inside Grower”

I think Ball Publishing does a bang-up job; their online and print publications are all really good. Now they have launched a new enewsletter dealing with vegetables that are grown inside—could be in a greenhouse, hoops, warehouses with LED lights, you name it. Some great reading if you are so inclined.

A blue rose? Hmmm

Suntory has announced the November availability of a new, blue rose called Applause. Trouble is, it looks exactly like the lavender-colored rose I have in my garden (I think it is Cabernet Sauvignon). Have you seen this rose? Do you think it looks blue? I’d like to see one in person and then decide.

Rochester firm in American Nurseryman

We missed it because we hadn’t started publishing this yet, but Zaretsky and Associates were featured in an article on water-wise gardening in July’s American Nurseryman. Nice job!

“Perfect” Garden Hoses

I wrote about these hoses in the Ear to the Ground section of the magazine, but I thought I’d mention them again as the company is local and they are available wholesale. As advertised, they really. actually do not kink. They’re also incredibly lightweight. Email Jim Thayer or visit their website for more info.

Pink Annabelles

Annabelle hydrangeas are absolutely wonderful garden plants. They spread nicely without being invasive, and those gorgeous, giant white flowers are perfect for cutting and last forever. So I was pretty excited about the new pink Annabelles that have come out, Invincibelle Spirit (pictured) and Bella Anna, but after year two of growing the former in my garden, I am underwhelmed. Anyone had good results with either of these?
