At first this seemed, I don’t know…really stupid. But it’s kind of cool, and the writer makes a good point that it might give people who might otherwise never care about houseplants a taste of how much fun it is to have a green thumb. The Rochester Civic Garden Center and Batavia Turf, with a little help from Yours Truly and of course Broccolo’s Kimie Romeo, will team up to host a rocking good Green Drinks on January 26. There is also a Green Drinks Buffalo in the works for January. Stay tuned for further details.
Awards for U of R
The University of Rochester has won the Professional Grounds Management Society Green Star award and Tree Campus USA recognition for 2010 by the Arbor Day Foundation. Congrats!
Cornell Plantations, 92nd St. Y team up for lecture series
The series, entitled “Changing Earth,” begins tomorrow (December 7) in Manhattan with a talk by Cornell’s Nina Bassuk. Don Rakow, Plantations’ Director, will talk March 14, 2012, about “Why We Need Green Spaces,” and Jonathan Lunine, a Cornell Professor of Astronomy, will speak on April 18, about the possibility of life on other planets. The 92nd Street Y is well-known in NYC and beyond for its educational and arts programming.

Steal ALL of these ideas
I don’t mean to rave, but the October 2012 Today’s Garden Center magazine lives in a basket by my bathtub. I refer to it so often, while soaking, that It looks like something that got fished out of a lake. It’s the Steal This Idea issue, so please do.
Fields of greens
This is a very neat operation, but if they are going to sell fresh greens, I wish there were someone local Wegmans could work with instead.
