I know, I babble incessantly about Greentopia this & Greentopia that, but hey. It’s all around me. The program guide booklet arrived today (in print) and can be found here online. Many of you know Marci Muller, formerly of the Rochester Landscape Technicians Program, Broccolo Tree & Lawn Care, and Marstan Nursery. We published a story about her a while back. After an unfortunate staffing situation that caused much chaos, Marci swooped in and took over the Greentopia reins, thank goodness! I personally and everyone involved are tremendously grateful. Please have a look at the lineup of events and come out and see us.
Also present at Greentopia: Ted Collins Tree & Landscape, Batavia Turf, Broccolo TLC/Country Way Garden Center, Summit Landscaping, Oriental Garden Supply, and the GardenScape Pros. Oh! And Pietro Furgiuele from Waterford Tilling, whom I saw just today helping to create the Forest Cinema. I hope I haven’t forgotten anyone.
Scotts Miracle-Gro to pay $12.5 million in criminal and civil penalties for violations of federal pesticide laws. This story has been around for a long time, but it still makes me completely nuts—they intentionally put poison in bird seed—and the judgment is news.
The Pantone color report for Spring 2013 has been released.
There will be a free symposium at UB on 9/21 that, I must say, looks very highbrow and interesting! Hosted by the Gender Institute in anticipation of their Gender Week in October, whose theme is “Engendering Gardens,” the day will feature discussions by a wide array of scholars and community activists. The schedule is here and there is a full description here.
