- Last week we reported that the National Wildlife Federation and Scotts/Miracle-Gro had formed a sponsorship deal and that environmentalists were pretty upset about it. Over the next several days, the Internet was absolutely ablaze with this news and reactions to it—interestingly, it didn’t make the newspapers at all. Then a new story broke, the revelation that Scotts was being fined 4.5 million dollars, in part because “…from November 2005 to March 2008, Scotts distributed 73 million units of birdseed coated with insecticides called Storcide II and Actellic 5E. This was done to keep insects from eating the seeds during storage.” These insecticides are toxic to birds. The NWF, at this point, had little choice to end the partnership. This drama was fascinating to watch play out in real time and was an excellent demonstration of the power of social media.
- It can be difficult to find pretty, garden-y stamps, and not to sound unpatriotic, but that old flag one is pretty boring. So I was excited to see these new forever first class bonsai stamps debut.
