Hello hello! What a couple of weeks! July is madness.
- The Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens is looking for photographers and artists to exhibit their work each month in the Arcangel Gallery.
- The New UGJ is Available to read online!
- There is a lot in this 2013 Trends Report from the Garden Media Group; it is definitely worth a read. For instance, the first section offers a look at global consumer trends such as spiritualism, positive thinking, and smart shopping, and offers some ideas on how to capitalize on them. The report goes much deeper into our own industry statistics, though, and is pretty interesting stuff. You do have to give some information about yourself to obtain the download, but they’re not spammers, have no fear.
- Saw this is Clover Nursery in Rochester the other day and just thought it was very cute and clever.
- From Today’s Garden Center, 5 Garden Center Signage Tricks That Will Save You Money. Mine is, of course, number 4, as I’m a huge proponent of e-newsletters.
- In today’s age of—perhaps—less is more, do you think this display at Dawes Arboretum is clever and a good use of resources, or a stupid waste of space? Via Fine Gardening.
- From the blog of Birchcrest Tree’s Dave Dailey: “Brian Krawczyk is, once again, the best tree climber in New York State. In early June, he journeyed to Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay on Long Island to compete in the New York State Arborists, ISA Chapter’s annual Tree Climbing Championship, and he won for the fourth time.” Brian came back from a near-fatal ice climbing fall to reclaim this title. Congratulations! Here is a link to a Democrat and Chronicle piece that includes video.
- BloomaPalooza has been cancelled, says Green Profit, but some folks might show up anyway.
- From Turf magazine bwo @amnurseryman, these great tips: Selling landscape lighting: Don’t focus just on aesthetics, but also address safety, security.
- A sweet little read from the Times (and I never knew prickly pears were native, or didn’t think about it): A Bee’s Prickly Dream.
- Rochester peeps will like this one from the Democrat and Chronicle: Retrofitting Rochester: Vick’s Seed House.
