Hey, it’s Friday!
- The weekend is on its way, but it will be tough to top last Saturday & Sunday’s Garden Walk Buffalo. Here is a link to just SOME of the pictures taken there (a particularly good set). For more, keep an eye on the facebook page. Recently, a novelist friend asked me how a gardener would easily go about poisoning someone, and I said I thought the castor bean was probably a top candidate (though for more, she can also check out Amy’s Stewart’s “Wicked Plants.” Anyway…as I was walking the garden walk, I found this incredible specimen of the very plant I’d recommended. Here it is.
- From American Nurseryman‘s facebook page: “Creative Landscaping Ideas: Raised turf. This design contrasts colors, shapes, and textures.” Love it.
- Here’s the list of the country’s top 10 influential garden centers according to Today’s Garden Center. New York State has only one on the list, and it isn’t even open anymore! (Matterhorn.) Sheesh.
- From the New York Times: Vassar Revives Garden Nurtured by Early Promoter of Native Plants (great story).
- The National Garden Bureau has announced its 2014 “Year of the” crops, and they are…petunia, cucumber, and echinacea! Ta da! All worthy selections.
- From Lawn & Garden retailer: “2014 OFA Short Course to Expand Retail Offerings,” following consolidation with ANLA.
- This is kind of a fun little thing I’d recommend sharing on your facebook page: The American Garden Award, a popularity contest for plants. In first place currently is a Sunpatiens (Compact Electric Orange), not surprisingly.
