Good day! I fear I’ve been a little bit slow on the uptake, and some of this might be old news.
- WNY Landscaper Bob Hoag of The Grounds Guys died last week at the age of 69.
- James Van Sweden, legendary landscape architect, also passed away last week. There are a few good reads about him: from the Times, James van Sweden Dies at 78; His Designs Urged Lawns to Grow; from the ASLA blog The Dirt: James van Sweden, Father of the New American Garden, Dies; and from the Cultural Landscape Foundation: James Van Sweden.
- From Today’s Garden Center: The American Nursery & Landscape Association and OFA—The Association of Horticulture Professionals (which used to be called Ohio Floriculture Association, hence the confusing abbreviation) have consolidated to become the American Horticultural Association, or AmericanHort. This merger has been long in the making.
- I have noticed (and even experienced) some confusion around the term “phytoremediation” lately. If you too wonder exactly what it’s all about, check out this piece. I can’t vouch for the site, but the info appears legit. Phytoremediation: Using Plants to Remediate Land.
- Sara Tambascio put together this great piece on street art for Today’s Garden Center, incorporating some of my finds too! Garden Center Display: Graffiti Shrub Street Art Is Garden Art. And while we’re at it, here’s a new one:
I’ll close with a bit of…ok, I’m going to say it’s nonsense. As you are my educated peers. I probably don’t need to get into why I think it’s nonsense. BUT. If it sells more plants, I’m all for it. Behold the TamTato.
