Hey, what happened? It’s Saturday already? Well, good morning.
- Don Rakow is retiring as head of Cornell Plantations, and there is a search on for his replacement.
- Nominations are due Monday for NYSNLA Gold Medal and Hall of Fame & CNLP of the Year awards.
- The WNY Nurseryman’s Association Foundation is accepting scholarship applications.
- Latest entry in the Wacky World of Plant-Growing Stuff You Never Knew You Needed category: Klorofyll, a suspended light fixture that doubles as a hanging kitchen garden. (Via @urbangardens.)
- Nice story in last week’s Rochester Business Journal about Tom Houseknecht and Moffett Turf Equipment.
- Cute stuff: “Sesame Street Explores National Parks” urges kids to head outside.
- More cute stuff: Wegmans seems to be on a tiny succulents kick. As much as I hate to see anyone take a slice out of the independent garden centers’ business, I do love Wegmans and, let’s face it, they know a thing or two about what sells. How about you? Are small succulents big biz this year?
- Have you been following this Sean Parker wedding nonsense? He’s the tech billionaire who allegedly destroyed a chunk of old-growth forest in California for his 10 million dollar wedding, a move that cost him 2.5 million in return. Which is, of course, a drop in the bucket. And also, says he, “Everything We Did Was An Homage To Nature.” Gag me with a forklift.
- On a happier note, beloved hardy geranium ‘Rozanne’ tops a list of great plants to receive a special honor at Chelsea this year: “Geranium found at bottom of garden Plant of the Centenary.”
That’s all, folks!
