Good morning! We are going to press UGJ Holiday issue (it is hoped); let me know if you want to squeeze in an ad.

- Monroe County’s Cornell Cooperative Extension will vacate its digs and move to a renovated farm house in Seneca Park, near the zoo. No one wants to see CCE leave 249 Highland Ave., but the truth is that the responsibilities of and the funding for Extension have been dwindling for years, and their current facility is underused. Rumor has it that once the building is razed, the county hopes to erect a pavilion in its place to rent out for events.
- Hooey or a True Hazard? Cornell CALS’s Marge Daughtry weighs in on Impatiens Downy Mildew for Green Profit‘s BUZZ. Short answer: Don’t bother. Redirect your customers to suitable alternatives.
- Question for you all: What are you recommending to replace pines felled by Diplodia Tip Blight? Three in front of my house were taken out today. The general consensus seems to be the seemingly bullet-proof Norway spruce, but aren’t we setting ourselves up for trouble by creating yet another monoculture?
- For those of you who are into turf art:
- Some neat tips here on hand-drawn garden designs (I wish I had that particular talent): Lisa Orgler Garden Design + Illustration.
.
- Garden Walk Buffalo peeps: Marvin Lunenfeld Beautification Grants applications are now available.
- PLANT WNY has a new Facebook page—check it out!
- And we’ll end things with a couple of items from the New York Times:
- Turning to Darwin to Solve the Mystery of Invasive Species (this is REALLY interesting, by the way).
- Don’t You Want More Than a Macintosh? If this excites you, get to LynOaken’s heirloom orchard in Lyndonville, NY! (Link, with picture below, points to a piece by Tom Rivers for the Orleans Hub.)
