Hello and happy Friday! A little business here first.
If you want to get in to the next Upstate Gardeners’ Journal, let me know. The deadline is technically next Friday the 18th, but you know me…if you reserve the space we can always get the graphics and copy worked out in time. Don’t forget we reach 15,000 highly targeted garden loving households with each issue.
Now about Ear the Ground PRO. You KNOW everyone reads it. In fact, out of over 1000 subscribers, nearly 87% have opened a recent issue. That is a lot of eyeballs, folks! So if you want to reach the decision-makers in this industry, be smart like Oriental Garden Supply and Batavia Turf and advertise here. It’s cheap!
Onward.
- Dave Green sent me this great piece on hellebores, and since publishing it I’ve been seeing them everywhere, even in Wegmans and yesterday, in a pretty container outside Café Cibon on Park Ave in Rochester (outstanding panini). That’s right—hellebores are trendy! Finally!

- From the Democrat and Chronicle: Disaster area expands for vineyards hit hard by winter. Yikes, but not unexpected.
- Several of you asked me about the source of that awesome stone car pictured in the last issue, and I think I have found where the content originally appeared. There’s a lot more to see; definitely check it out.
- Kind of an old story, but interesting: Scotts tests genetically modified grass seed at homes.
- Lakeview Lawn and Landscape is looking for help.
- Lastly, a special thank you to Chris Beytes and Ellen Wells for their tireless coverage of the California Spring Trials. You can read their daily newsletters and see their video round-ups by starting here. They really are a lot of fun and very informative.
I haven’t finished going through each day carefully yet, but these new Happy Magic petunias caught my eye.
